University of Jember Held A Job Fair
Jember , March 26, 2014
Educational Supervisory and Development Institute (LP3) University of Jember again held a job fair. The event, which is carried out annually, was held to bridge Tegalboto Campus graduates with the job world. This job fair event was run from Tuesday to Wednesday (26/3) at the Soetardjo Building University of Jember.
Chairman of LP3 University of Prof. Jember Prof. Dr. Tejasari, M.Sc. said the job fair was a routine activity held every year after graduation. The job fair this time was followed by 25 companies from various sectors.
“We will also carry out a survey on alumni of Unej who have worked in several companies, either in or out of the city, so it can be seen where Unej graduates already work,” she said.
Unej Vice Rector of Student Affairs Prof. Dr. HM Saleh, MSc said the job fair could provide information to Unej graduates who had graduated a few weeks ago, so this could reduce unemployment in Jember Regency.
“We hope that there is a synergy between Unej with a number of “stakeholders”, so that Unej students who have skills and achievement can work in a number of companies even before they graduate,” he said. According to Prof. Saleh, state universities are not only assigned to provide knowledge for students but also are demanded to shorten waiting period of graduates that will seek for jobs.
“The waiting period of D-3 graduates to gain a job is usually about 2-3 months and is faster than S-1 (Bachelor) graduates with waiting period of 3-4 months because D-3 graduates have expertise in the field,” he said.
Prof . Saleh hoped that the job fair could encourage Unej graduates to open their own job opportunities or to create jobs, not looking for jobs, because the board had conducted entrepreneurship training to 600 Unej students expected to be young entrepreneurs.
Based on observation in the field, the job fair was attended by job seekers and, within two hours since opening, it was recorded that the number of visitors had reached 500 people. Some of the companies participating in Unej job fair were Bank Danamon, Bank Mandiri, BPTN Syariah, PT Indobat Industri Permai, PT Nestle Indonesia, Alfamart, PT Garuda Food, PT Mayora, and PT BISI.
