UNEJ is Fostering Longan Farmers Group

After having successfully fostering coffee’s farmers in Sidomulyo village, The University of Jember will be fostering group of farmers at Umbulsari district. Now is the longan farmers turn from “Taruna Tani” to be foster which is located at Gunung Sari of Umbulsari district. Drs. Moh. Hasan, MSc., PhD as the The Rector from The University of Jember attended directly to Gunungsari village to see the preparation of longan farms. (19/03)

Along with the contingent, there was also Anas ma’ruf as the secretary from Disperindag (Department of Industry and Trade) Jember who represented Head of Disperindag of Jember, whom unable to attend in person. “This is to follow up on our colleagues findings gained from their working experience concerning the potency of longan fruits at this village,” stated by the rector. Gunungsari has massive potency and it will be a pity if it is not nurtured according by the rector.

He also revealed that team of experts from The University of Jember able to adjust flowering process. With the existence of such technology, farmers will be able to yields according to the time they want. “Since all can be arranged through the utilization of technology to control flowering, farmers should not be afraid to price crash due to an abundant harvest within a single season” added the rector.

Drs . Moh . Hasan , MSc . , PhD as the Rector of The University of Jember furthermore explained that the university deliberately collaborated with Desperindag of Jember in fostering program to synergize between The University of Jember with government agency as well as along with the society.  “We intentionally invite Disperindag Jember in order to work together, especially concerning on post- harvest industrialization,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, the Department of Industry and Trade claimed  that were greatly helped by The University of Jember. “We just knew that here has good longan potential and quite large, we were greatly aided with what has been done by The University of Jember particularly through student’s working experience,” said Anas ma’ruf as secretary Disperindag Jember .
The farmer’s group leader from Taruna farmers, named Hamid, admitted that he was very pleased with the fostering conducted. He said there had been no agency to provide guidance and assistance to farmer groups of Taruna Tani. “We expect of assistance especially in the post-harvest processing such as fruit’s canning,” he said.(Mj/Aj)
